10 of the best baby bibs for weaning 2024
DO YOU NEED A BABY BIB FOR WEANING?
While not 100% essential, they are incredibly useful for protecting your baby’s clothes from the inevitable mess that comes with weaning.
What are the main types of baby-weaning bibs?
The traditional sleeveless bib: These are the most basic type. They usually attach behind the neck and cover the chest and tummy of the baby.
A long-sleeved bib: These offer a lot more coverage and therefore clothing protection.
Catcher bib: These have a pocket or scooped pouch to catch any falling food and prevent it from falling onto the baby’s lap or onto the floor. They can be long-sleeved or sleeveless.
Coverall bib: These are long-sleeved bibs that also cover over the high table tray and table so that all food is confined to this one area and therefore there is just one thing to clean afterwards.
What bib features should I look out for?
How can it be cleaned and dried? They are going to get messy so how they can be cleaned is important. They can either be wiped clean, hand-washed, machine-washed or put in the dishwasher. You may also want to consider whether the fabric is suitable for tumble drying.
Is it waterproof? Waterproof fabric will better protect clothes from liquid spillages.
How is it fastened? The fastening should be adjustable for the perfect fit and also so that it grows with the child. It should also be very secure, especially if you have a baby that likes to pull bibs off! Velcro (hook and loop) is often used but this can lose its staying power over time.
It is easily transportable? Some come with their own travel pouch or roll up neatly for easy transportation.
Is it comfortable to wear? Ideally, a bib should be lightweight and soft and not chafe where it meets any skin.
